Check out Old Lowe. He's in Texas and is spinning brass and aluminum cones of nice quality.

You can by reso cones from Continental pretty cheap (often on ebay).

A reso cone needs a soundwell (inside the box) to truly have the reso sound. The idea -- formulated years ago by the Dopyera brothers, inventors of the Dobro -- was that the cone did not touch the top of the guitar (which deadens the sound you seek in a reso).

A soundwell can easily be made from a small aluminum pie pan. Just chop out the bottom and drill a few holes around it (in the sides of the pan). Glue in some standard guitar kerfing for the cone to sit on.  Use a 6" ukelele-size biscuit cone on your typical CBG. Whole thing shouldn't cost you more than about $25 . . . and you'll have a pretty authentic reso sound.

Volume increases dramatically when the cone doesn't touch -- or isn't attached -- to the top of the box.

Hi Rockcity,

Here's my list of reso cone makers (see below). It includes international makers as well. If you find some new ones, let me know. I keep my listed posted on CBN in the "Useful Links" list in the discussion group called " Home Made Resonator Boxes 101"
