I bought this acoustic git from my local music store. The body was beat to hell and got thrown out along with one 3 post tuner. The rest looks fine. My question is that if I separate the heel from the neck (there is a seam), will it be able to be used as a bolt on solid body style neck? Next, should I remove the fretboard for repositioning, and to check for a truss rod?

That is a great picture of the set-up. I might try that with this build.

A bolt on is feasable, (bolted to a neck block, acoustic style. Not flat like a Fender.) I like the barrel bolt method, that combined with either a glu joint or a dovetail/mortise, or both.

Not to set a negative note, but Colin, the fretboard and frets appear to be in VERY poor condition, Depending on your expectations it may not be worth all the trouble.

To be honest I have no expectations for the impending build. Other than experience on successfully assembling the guitar.

The condition of the guitar was VERY poor. It was evidently a dumpster guitar that my local git shop had for a while and just decided to sell, the tailpiece pickguard and 3 post tuner I got off it are worth the 8.50. The fact that the neck was not bowed beyond reuse was a shock to me. Besides if worst comes to worse I can always remove the fretboard and install a new one. Shoot I will even have to install a new nut. Check out this headstock pic, the low E slot is busted.

Such a great find, I have an add on a local bulletin board for damaged wares...... people seem to want the moon for their broken junk out here. Really good find, especially the age of the fret board, that will make a superb piece :) Maximo
