By the way, make the jig, and then test it on some cheap wood, before you use your good stuff.

OK.........take a nice straight 2 x 2, longer than any neck you will make, and staple, nail, or screw a block to one end.........DONE ! It couldn't be simpler.

this is for a straight stick, headstock style, like for a three string........mark the width you want at the bottom.........here i have, 1 and 15/16.....then mark your top at the width you want, and draw a line . then put it in the jig.
sweet thanks fader! guna fire up the new table saw later tonight. my other one had those wack groves in the miter slots.

heres the cut, you can flip the piece around which ever way the grain looks best

now go to the top, whatever number you had at the bottom, make the top match, for this sample it was 1 and 15/16 . so put some spacer blocks between the neck and the jig so the number is the same , then I just tape them there so they stay put. set the fence to the number you need, measuring from the jig, again for this one 1 and 15/16 and run it through.........done. Oh yeah, do the scarf first then taper. i didn' scarf this sample, just to save time, but you get the idea.

here is that shot again, of the neck in the jig , with the cut made..............easy......and.........done.

I forgot this photo........I find making a full size paper or poster board pattern / template very helpful. then take the neck blank with one nice straight side, and mark the widths that you need.

OK.......... this is how I do a wide head stock, like for 4, 5, or 6 string. first scarf the neck, again i didn't here to save time......and of course you will want to rip the neck blank down as narrow as you can before you do the scarf.........I just had this piece of 1 x 6 handy....then lay the pattern on it keeping one side parallel to the neck blank......you don't want to have to taper both sides, if you don't have to. then just run it through the saw useing just the saw fence, don't cut too far ! then finish the cut with a jig saw or whatever you have.

This time you work from the other end. put it in the jig and get your number, here it is 2 and 3/8. then go to the bottom.

At the bottom, just tape the right size spacer block or "blocks" to the jig, so it will equal the top number, again 2 and 3/8.

set the fence to the right width and dont cut too far,......then just finish with a jig saw, or whatever you have.

cuts are finished..........hopfully i was clear enough.............I hope this has helped.....if you have any more questions just ask. Blessings to you and your builds. Jesse ( AKA ) THE FADER
