Some time in the near future, I am going to do a cookie tin guitar.  I am just going strait peizo  on this one....any how, I have heard that the best sound is given when the peizo is on the back side of the neck / or under side of the neck.  Is this true in all cases?  I thought about just drilling out a hole in the neck big enough for the peizo and then filling that hole with hot glue and the peizo.....when I mount the neck on the inside of the cooke tin I will either glue it or screw it in , or both.....it is a Christmas tin, and of course, it is more sturdy on the back of the tin when the tin is bent to form the shape of the box.  So I am cutting a whole big enough in the ends of the tin for my neck to go through, and I am going to just keep the lid on the back so I can get inside of it if I have too...I am going to add some drilled holes to the front for a sound hole, but of course it will be electric too.  If I get too much of a sharpness with the peizo in the box, I will dampen the tin with a rag or some news paper or something, but I am really looking for that ring, so I don't know.....I really want a clean sound from this one....so, do my plans sound good so far?

IMO, neck placement of a piezo is positively the most dreadful godawfull location ever. However some people might like to hear ever little hand movement amplified to the tenth power. But no rules, right?

Hmmm....never thought of it that way....might have to think about this one again....I always mount mine to the back of the box, but I always hear the peizo whenever they back rubs against my shirt or something....now, with this all said, if anyone has a neck mounted peizo build, a video would be cool to see and heart what it sounds like.
I've never heard it said that the best sound is with the piezo on the neck. In fact I would think the opposite. There is a wholle lot od mass .. in fact, the most mass of anything in a cbg is the neck, and the vibes haft move through that to the piezo.
IMHO, the best place is directly under the bridge ...... second best is under the lid under the bridge. Thats where I put it.

All IMHO of course.

Matt
Closer to the string seems to be best for me. I build it into the bridge, a block of wood that holds the actual bridge up. That should work for the cookie tin too.
