Ok  this is the Idea -:

On my next build I'm wanting to use a coil pickup and a piezo

( nothing new there I hear you say)

But what I want to do is have both coil pickup and piezo on different phone jacks

so you have 2 separate jacks for each pick up. which means you can plug your guitar up to 2 amps with 2 different effects at the same time.

But I also want to be able to combine both pickups coil and piezo as well via a switch to one phone jack is this possible ?

Now I'm not that up on electrics and to tell you the truth this is going to be fun getting may head round the wiring so any help pros n cons etc would be really grateful

Soul......

you'll need 2- switche's to isolate the mag p/u and the piezo, i'll try and do a drawing for you later,
Thanks
Thats well cool, so do you think its a good idea then ??

sorry should have said a double pole single throw switch, save you drilling 2-hole's in your box, think this should work,

I wanted to do this same thing with an eight string. I would love to hear the finished sounds. Could you have just 2 jacks with the piezo and the magnetic wired to one, then a switch to cut one out? Could one have the piezo (i.e.) wired to volume, maybe a tone too, then split it between a jack and the switch. Then the mag. hooked up as with a dual pup with switch, then you could have the sound even (if you want) of the dual pup and the piezo all at the same time. Maybe I am just rewording what was already typed? Anyway I am curious to hear it.

Didn't Rickenbacker do something simular with 2 output jacks for stereo effect? Not sure how they worked it.
Thanks GARAGE HERMIT for the jpeg.
The reason i want separate jacks is so i can have two different sounds/effects at the same time
( ie one clean the other distorted or one with loads of reverb and the other flatt).
but also have the option to add both together.
The easy option would be to wire up them both separately i guess.
And i guess it doesnt have to be a piezo and a coil it could be 2 coils etc.
kind of like this? or without so many knobs.?

yeah, i thought that after i sent it. oh well, it had two pups (whichever you want) both wired to their own individual vol and tone, and going to a single switch to turn (?) pup off/on but one pup was split off to its own jack. that way you would have the choice of outputting only one to its own effects. ?

Already done something very similar - although a little more complex because it's two mag pickups and one piezo. See the following pics...

I've found it works surprisingly well. Several people told me there was no point mixing a piezo and a mag pickup but I've found it gives a tone that's different to either on their own (although there's a debate to be had about exactly why that is). However the ability to mix mag and piezo pickups was an added bonus and wasn't the main point of this build. I've more work still to do to see whether it really will work as an "infinite" guitar.
I think this should work based on the Artec telecaster diagram - Basically a 3 way switch with the piezo also wired to number 2 output jack so if you use both jacks switch to magnetic pick up on the 3 way and each will go via their own output. You can easily play around with the tone and volume positions if you want to control the pickups individually. If you use number 1 jack you still have the option of magnetic/both/piezo.

This will do the trick. It's a simplified version of my circuit (minus one mag pickup and the tone & vol contols). I just sketched it out so I hope it's clear enough. If you have any questions send me a mail message.
