Thanks guys I think I found the sweet spot. 12th fret was also higher than rest so sanded it down. I think I'm going to love this instrument. Have a CNC machine and woodshop so will try to make my next one. Thanks for advice.

Hi, Id say Keith is on the money with his reply.

At the 12th I would have 2mm at most, and at the nut I'm talking .5mm [1/2 a mm] for an acoustic finger fretted guitar. Check the straightness of the neck by fretting the first fret and the 12 fret and checking the clearance at the 7th fret. Some clearance indicates up bow [a little is good] touching could mean back bow.

First check to make sure that the neck isn't bowed. Use a straight edge, maybe a square to see. It will rock, if it is bowed. If that is the problem, then you first need to use a block with sandpaper and sand them down to level. Then try playing again.

Yes it has frets, elec. Have fret 1 at 2mm and fret 12 about 4. 12th fret seams higher than the rest if I lower strings more I get buzz on 13 and 14 on top string.

Sounds like your 3 string was made more for sliding than picking. Does it have frets? Acoustic or electric? If so, you could probably lower the action a little bit.
