The Cigar Box Guitar Movement Turns 25 Today

Twenty Five Years Ago...

July 4, 1993.  Saltsburg, PA.  As I ripped the hunk of barn wood across my father's table saw, I was unknowingly witnessing the rebirth of a lost and forgotten instrument.

Nobody builds a cigar box guitar because they want to play nice things...

On July 4, 1993, I built my very first cigar box guitar. This photo is of the actual guitar.  It was built from a plank of wood from my father’s barn, a cardboard Swisher Sweets box, three guitar tuners from a broken guitar, and three used guitar strings.

This is where it all started for me.

The guitar still plays.  I posted a link to a video demo below.

Happy 4th of July, everyone.

Stay primal,
Shane

ps.  The book is done.  It has gone to print.  Look for it on shelves and autographed copies on my website in October 2018.

Cobalt Blue Stubby Slides are back...

I just finished cutting and polishing two dozen new Cobalt Blue Stubby Slides and listed them.  Get 'em while they're in stock.  It may be a while until I get the time to make more.
