I got some really rough 1x2s and hand tools today in HCMC, quite the accomplishment. Basically I went to the wonderful Mr. Binh (of Guitar Binh Handmade Guitars), who sold me a lovely acoustic a couple years back, and he told me where to get wood and tools. I forgot a few things, but was able to hack down the 1x2s to get rid of split ends. Tomorrow a trip to the Humidor (the only real cigar retailer in Saigon)? Maybeeeeeee....

I understand there are many individuals, families, and companies making guitars, ukuleles, etc., in Saigon, so I'm sure there's no shortage of components available locally. You already know about Nguyen Thien Thuat Street; maybe try asking for sources around there?

Good on ya, Bob. Ya gotta start somewhere! Being spoiled in the USA with pretty good postal service, Amazon Prime delivery, hardware store down the street, and such, I am not a good one for waiting. A thought, you could go old-school and make tuners from eyebolts, wing nuts, etc. Many here I have done so. Never done it myself, and with the low cost of import tuners here, it probably is more costly to go the nut and bolt route. But if you have stuff already laying around, or cheap, ready access, you could do that. Or, as many have done,  Rob the headstock of an old guitar. Don't know if there a lot of old guitars in VN.  Good luck, post some pics as you go.

PS I also placed an order from CB Gitty and can only pray that it arrives. Sometimes stuff doesn't, or gets returned, or disappears. That's VN postal services for you. Plus there's often a duty, and another unofficial one on top of that. The main reason this didn't deter me was that if I get in front of an audience with a CBG, it will be the first one seen in these parts, in probably forever.
