AGP #287 - “Blend Pot”
(3 String Cigar Box Guitar)
Scale : 457.2mm / 18 inches
Strings : .036NW / .026NW / .018NW /
Tuning: D / A / d /
Every now and then I do build an actual “Cigar Box Guitar”, the Neck is Grey Ironbark and the Fretboard is White Oak.
The main idea behind this build was to use one of the 5 Dual Blend Potentiometer’s I purchased quite awhile back but never took the time to look into how they were wired or worked, a 3.7k Lipstick Pickup and a 27mm Piezo Disc are wired through the “Blend Pot” and Tone Pot to the Jack, I think I got right???, as everything seems to work as required, but not overly impressed with the outcome, but this could be due to the fact that I’m not a big fan of Piezo’s, currently working on a build with a Single Coil, Humbucker, Blend Pot, Tone and Volume.

"Thanks Chick Who Tinkers", I bought a couple of hundred of these cheap skulls a few years back, and ended up using them on almost every build I've done, I usually put them in the position where the fourth machine head would be, in case I decide to turn it into a four string instrument. :-)
"Thanks Jim Morris" for the non plant based jokes, glad to see I'm not the only one with a bit of an aversion to Piezo's, and likewise, have heard a lot of great sounding builds by others, Example - Uncle John's fine Tenor Builds, and I agree with his methods with the Hot Glue, although I must admit I've been standing on the wrong foot and singing the wrong song, when first starting my CBG journey most of my earlier builds were indeed Piezo's, most have been changed to Mag Pups, but there are still a few with Piezo's that sound quite good, including my first ever build, but alas!, the overall percentage is small. :-{
"Thanks Uncle John", as I previously said the "Headstock Design" was an after thought, and I'm now looking at it more and more as a *Canvas (that's an *ARTY FARTY term), in order to say something about each particular build.
"Thanks James O Lunsford", I can't (or want to) stop building, don't know if it's therapeutic or not, but I seem to very contented working away in my Work Shed, whilst listening to some "Good Music" :-D
"Thanks Jim_in_Tucson", a bit of good humour in those Pics my friend !!, I had the name "Blend Pot" already in mind because of the Electronic side of the build, and was looking on Goggle for a suitable Flowery type design to continue up and on from the Ivy Fretboard, BUT!!!, upon seeing this particular type of "Weed" pic, I couldn't help myself :-}~
"Thanks Jeff 'Bones' Reilly", It's always 4.20 somewhere ;-)
"Thanks the anonymous pick", Very Punny :-D :-D :-D
LOL, Jim. I am glad I found that.
You guys are too hard on piezos. MOST of mine sound good. Hot melt glue on the box or neck in the region of the saddle. Cover (sandwich) the piezo with the hot melt glue. Stand on your left foot during the whole process and sing House of The Rising Sun. Works for me.
I could have used some of that medicinal Mary Jane when I was laid up for 6 weeks. Truly. I think it would have been worth a go.
