has anyone ever wired a 1/8 female jack to a 1/4 switchcraft ?

I'd like to try making my own soundhole pickup for acoustic guitar.  looks as if the 1/8 has 3 connectors instead of 2.  I'm a ssuming the 3rd is a ground but not sure what to ground it to..

thanks in advance guys.  sorry I'm not on this site more..

If the 1/8" inch jack has 3 connectors, it's either a stereo jack or it's a switching jack - hard to tell without seeing it.

What you want is a "mono" 1/8" jack. You can make a stereo jack work, just wire the ground to the "sleeve" terminal and the hot to the "tip" terminal and leave the "ring" terminal unconnected.

thank you..  that's what I needed to know.. there are different types.. even the ones on amazon that look like a switchcraft have 3   not sure what to ground

Switchable jacks like this let you cut out the main speaker when you plug in a headphone by pushing back the tip connector and breaking the connection between the tip and switch lugs.

if you are trying to "use what's on hand" and don't need the switching function, just solder to the tip and sleeve lugs.

awesome!!   thank you..

ps.  which one is positive.. ?

we commonly use TIP for positive and SLEEVE for ground mostly for consistency, a piezo or mag pickup wired directly to a jack without tone/volume/selector/psycho/etc will work connected either way.
