I found this doo hickey in a whatsamacallit

I took apart a coors light beach/beer bag that had a place to plug in your ipod or such device.... inside was an 5W speaker and a piezo type speaker..... it had an on off and an input for ipod/iphone/portable radio...... I was thinking I could just use this as an amp type system so cut the leads off the the ipod type jack and tried to hook it to a guitar input.... no sound ...... I must be wrong in my assumption that a CBG can be an input device.... any use for this in my cigar box world.....

Couple of things come to mind, firstly, the input jack may have been a switching jack, and now your mono cord plug might not be turning the amp on, another might be if your guitar is piezo pupped, there might be an impedence mis match, but generally those mp3 type amps will work in my experience, hopefully one of the electrical guru's here can set you straight

double check your signal and ground,,, you can even short them intermittently and see if you get any static out of the speaker. Is there a volume adjustment? If no, then the amp is designed for a stronger input signal. Do you have a guitar pedal you can pass it through? Most pedals have a booster circuit. An acoustic preamp wouild be ideal for this...

this ... output from an ipod/mp3 player is much higher than that of a guitar. you will need to add a preamp to make it work.
