My Sister in law pulled out a #10 can of spaghetti sauce (didn't know she was a prepper!) so I got the 2 lids...   Hammered out this reso...  Now I can't decide if I should go Piezo or Humbucker...

I know, I know... do both... but ???  Meh...

I know the piezo, if glued to the reso will dampen it a bit, while a mag pup won't pickup as much as the resonator quality, so maybe a piezo on the wood instead, but???

So, to quote Johnny 5, I need "input, Stephanie!"

What would you do, and why?

Yeah, but...  ugh.. I'm just being lazy...  I was thinking I'd JB-Weld the piezo to the bottom of the reso, which is why I figured it would dampen it a bit.

Have you connected Piezo/Mag in parallel?  Does it work ok, or is a balance pot a better idea?  The impedances are so far apart, I figured the piezo would lose a lot of the high-end response...

will a magnet  stick  to  that  plate   ?  or  is  it  full allum  ?  if it's  magnetic  ,  another option  is  ;  you   can   mount a  mag pup  under it  verry  close  to   the  plate  but  not touching  .   it will  read the  plate as a string  . see  if ya like  that  sound  .

Nice, I didn't think about that!  It's a #10 can lid... mild steel...

That's very interesting.

How about neither and put a little electret condenser microphone somewhere in there?

CBG IS about doing w/ what you got.Go piezo,or just buy a cheap electric guitar.

So I mounted a dual rail humbucker about 1/16" from the resonator and hooked it up.  Just in case I decided to go back to a Piezo, I didn't put in a volume/Tone pot.

Just for giggles, I went with electric strings, grounded both the strings and the resonator.

Stellar idea!  It sounds Great!

#59: The electric Resonator...  :-)

Thanks all for the suggestions... If I get some time, I might record a bit so you can hear it.  The output from the pickup is surprisingly strong...

That is a beautiful instrument.

Thank you!

;-)  good stuff ;-)

Confused..you said 2 lids.. I see only 1
