I know this has been discussed before but can't find the discussion page.

the current box size that I've made doesn't quite look right given the size of the neck.

see picture below..

the box measured roughly 300mm x 210mm.

some say a big box give a better acoustic sound. but I want to have what look like about the right size with out making it small.

what the best size would you guys say is?

The size you mentioned above is a good choice, and is about the standard size for genuine large cigar boxes. For box depth, something around 50mm is good.

Most important for me is the proportions of the box relative to the neck/scale length. When I lay out a design for a given box, I look to wind up with a bridge placement about 1/4 to 1/3 the total length of the box from the tail end. I also choose a scale length that will give unobstructed access to at least 15 frets, so that the octave 12th fret is easily reached.

Your box size looks fine to me.  To change the "look" go to a 17 or 19 fret neck.

Yep. More frets clear of the box will move the bridge into a position clear of the edges

Looks good to me too mate, nice guitar.

I think that looks good and well proportioned.

The only change I would consider is to either make the soundholes not as large (too late!) with that style bridge and the mag pup, or use a floating bridge and tailpiece.  The acoustic performance will likely be better with a different bridge than the hardtail.  Really nice work though.  I like it.

That box is an ideal size and that is a well proportioned instrument. As already said that bridge won't produce the best sound

I agree, it looks great!  I like the sound holes, but it you paint the inside of the box with some flat black, it would look awesome...

this one is sold I think today.

my son has taken 2 of them to his partners brother as he wants one  but I said he can have them both for £70.($110)

I just want shot of them..

the bridge on that one vibrate a little.I shall not be using them again maybe on a solid git.

I actually like the proportions.

how loud/clean is the sound with a hardtail so far away from the 'sweetspot'?

sound really nice to me and my son who has better hearing than me.

and also he musically know how if you know what I mean.

as already said that bridge on that one vibrate a little.

i built my latest CBG to suit me....i have an over-6 foot "wing span" and my hands, from the tip of my middle finger to my outstretched thumb is almost 10 inches, but i have rather chubby fingers, so i made myself a guitar that gives me more "room". with a 2 inch wide fret board, and a custom made box body that is 3 inches deep, 14 inches long, and 10 inches wide. i love the sound she makes...not quite as "sweet" as my classical guitar, but a sound all her own. if what you build makes you happy, i would say THAT is a job well done.

Yep, it's been said. That is a real pretty build. A longer neck to move that bridge forward would help acoustically but it has mag pickup so who cares right! I like the black paint inside idea too. NIce proportions to my eye.
