When I found this site I thought I would build one or two guitars and move on to something else. But, I've seen some wildly creative instruments on this site that have provided me with a constant source of inspiration. Now I'm 30 instruments in and still going strong.

I think it would be fun to post pictures of the builds the we're the most proud of.

Don't feel limited to guitars. I've seen some homemade jigs, tools, drum kicks, and lots of other things that're both artistic and marvels of backyard engineering.

So lets each post one pick that's the best of what we've designed and built.

nice one Shawn,  i've a mind to do something like this, must dig out myself a slab sometime!  :-)

Delta Groove Guitars 4 string neck [ 22" SL ]...Wade gold foil pickup...aged patina copper sheeting - Doc Copper...weathered Red Oak sawmill plank body 2" x 11" x 15"...carved copper - mesquite burl bridge w/ black walnut burl bridge spacer...copper nut and tailpiece...copper plated tuners.

Yeah, it has a great weathered look.

Was there anything done to the copper to make it age in that way? I love all the colors in it.

I see some really fine work here. I will play, too. This is a five-string gourd banjo, my other passion aside from CBGs and other musical instruments. Ebony fingerboard, hard gourd resonator, Nylgut strings. Neck is based on a Bouchet style banjo, but with a regular peg head. Bridge is maple, tail piece is ebony tied on with hemp cord, nut is camel bone, skin is goat rawhide. It produces a nice soft true banjo sound. I drilled one large sound hole in one side of the gourd. Pegs are ebony violin pegs. No frets, as is proper for this style of 18th-19th century instrument. The neck is not just decorative, but tells you where the fifth, eight and octave are. With very little information about how Africans would have played the banjo during the plantation era, we basically are left with the minstrel style (stroke style), which is similar to claw hammer style, and is played using the thumb and forefinger only, a very percussive way ideal for vocal accompanying.

nice

Thanks to you both. Love the early banjos. They are truly where the blues began.

It's beautiful, and you're also having a part in honoring history.

Dane, that is wonderful! I like your historical approach. A banjo like this is on my to do list... Very inspirational!!

wholesome!!!

Thanks guys.   If I could only keep one, I would be quite sad.  But this would be the one.  Neck made from a pallet 2x4.   DGB tuning.
