feel free to ask any questions .
this is a simple way to do frets .. they really sound great and need effortless pressure to make the note .
no depth issues , slot cutting , fret wire , height issues , sanding , leveling etc .
and minimal filing
i highly recomend trying it .
the bobby pins / roller pins i got seem longer and maybe a bit wider than i remember the older ones being .
but i'm sure the old style would work too

I just found this thread. I gotta do it as my first fret job!
" im gonna cover it with chocolate syrup and eat it till the cows come home"
i just use wire cutters .
the wood is zebra wood . it is unfinished .
if i were to add a finish , i would do it after gluing the pins on .
I've used the vinegar method myself it woks very well.. Strong coffee tea and even beet juice work well as stains to give a weathered look. I've also had good luck using a heat gun on certain projects...... Dave
cider vinegar .. (the redish stuff is best ) just pull apart one ball a bit and let it soak in a jar of vinagar .. bout 3 hours at least .. then just use the water as you would any finish or paint . .. dont need to slap it on too thick .. just get the wood wet .
then wait and watch a few mins ,, it will turn gray before your eyes . soaking longer make a darker stain .
different woods have different shade results , but all aged looked .. darker woods will go darker etc .
good luck ;-)
I gotta go to the store, used all the vinegar making pickled eggs. I'll let you know how it turns out (the wood not the eggs)
Wierd looking guitar, I like it.
hi bob .. you can get a darker look leaving it on longer - some suggest soack over night .. but with light colors like poplar etc .. 3 hours gives it a nice faded gray look .
it will go on like water and not look like anything at first .. but give it a few seconds and a chem reaction takes place . try it on a test piece then compare the cleann when it is dry .. it should fully change in about 3 mins
heres a picture of my tea and tea build .. i used it on .. the neck behind the yardstich was white as a sheet , and the boxes were fresh white/yellow pine . (its actually a bit darker than the pic shows
Yeah, thanks Anonymous, I'll try that this week, never heard of it before.
Hi Anonymous Pick,
By "roller pin", you mean like "hair rollers" + "pin". I'll translate that into Chinese and Google the Hanzi to see if I can find anything like what you are talking about. Google's image search is probably my best bet as I can visualize the results a lot faster than mucking around translating Hanzi text back into English.
