Almost forgot about the contest! Alot of beautiful builds to "compete" against, but here is the 2nd uke I have ever built (1st one don't count.. ;-) ) I finished this one up right before the contest started. I have another in the works I hope to have finished before the deadline.

nice  patina

Well Ben Franklin (The name Ben is a very honorable name I might add, nudge nudge) invented many things. Bifocals, the Ben Franklin Stove, the list goes on and on! I believe Ben Franklin may have invented the first Ukulele, or at least the first electric ukulele. I bet with a little patience you can find some cool pictures on 3string guitar.com of ole Ben jammin' out on something similar to this bad mamma jamma!

As for specs this is a:

Old Philly box with a light coat of laquer to hold the label together

Soprano scale with an oak floorboard neck

0 fret nut with a walnut bridge and skeleton key from Ben's kite string

vintage keyhole on side to allow the uke to breath

"Lightening" double piezo pickup under the bridge

Old ladle to hold the strings down

I cut the "P" for the headstock by carefully cutting it out of the inside of the box, glued it down to the headstock and matched the headstock to the box color with acrylics.

Cheers,

Wade

Wow all these entries are killer!

Here's my latest CrocBite -  a ukulele made out of an old My Father cigar box, and a hand-carved canary neck with a rosewood fretboard and tailpiece.  The fret markers are mother of pearl and it has a piezo pickup installed.  The nut and bridge are black water buffalo horn.  Like most CrocBites, the box still opens.

This is my first cigar box creation, but definitely not the last.  I built this one on a tenor scale (17") and used Aquila strings. It's tuned with the standard re-entrant GCEA. The bridge, nut, and through-neck/headstock are oak, recycled from an old dresser drawer front. I put a small piece of holly between the string holes and the bridge so the strings wouldn't cut into the box edge. The sound holes are 1", 3/4", and 1/2". I used a golden oak stain on the neck to match the finish on the box. Friction tuners complete the instrument.

thats  pretty  cool .

My cigar box Soprano Ukulele has a piezo pickup with a scale length of 13" with an over all length of 19 3/4". The neck is made of wild cherry with friction pegs and the fret board is made of walnut. It has a bone nut with and a rosewood and bone bridge with GHS Ukulele H-10 strings

Just put the finishing touches on my 2nd entry. Sure am glad I don't have to judge, how do you just decide on two? So many awesome builds...

I look forward to seeing all the other instruments in this contest, and hope mine does well.

It's built with a Don Tomas Cameroon Selection cigar box, standard concert neck, rosewood bridge, gold tuners, and imbedded piezo rod under the bridge. 20 inch length overall, nylon strings, and gold volume knob. After the contest will try some steel strings to improve the amplified sound. Would appreciate suggestions on steel string selection for this little uke.

Photos do not show the nylon strings that are installed. No music shop nearby,,,had to wait for snail mail delivery.

Thank you, and good luck to all!
