O.k. so I'm completely new at this. I just got my first cbg it's a four string. Any way I have some questions. I saw a chord chart posted but are there tabs in cbg? Or a scale that fits an open G tuning? Or any tuning for that matter? Also does anyone happen to use a capo when playing theirs? Oh and I'm learning my first slide stuff too. Any advice on using a slide? Or any little tricks with it that are easy yet impressive that crowd please? Oh and the songs you personally recommend people start learning with. Oh and warping. Do cbg's have issues with the neck warping like with my guitar? So glad to be here and thanks for any and all advice. ~K

Wow that's GREAT !!! Can you make a super basic teaching video for that ? Very impressive. Love it :)

I'm just riffin' on the above video and I'm not really up to transcribing the whole thing but I've done one on Open E (same as Vestapol but up a tone) and a few things that it'll do. Not super basic but hopefully there'll be something in here for you if you can already play a bit.

Can't play to well yet but getting a little more every day. I learned that little rift I recorded and posted the other day. Yesterday I learned the 12 bar blues. We will see what I learn today. :) I'm gonna watch the video now. :) Thanks a ton.

This might be a bit much if you've only just started, I got you mixed up with someone else. See how you go though you may find something in there.

I've almost finished the 4 string course on my site, it's designed for beginners and will be worth a look.

Does it cost money? I only ask because I have my extras already tied up in a cbg :) lol.

Yeah, it's a proper instructional method, graded lessons, fair dinkum as we say around here. $47 The update for 4 string will be another 2 weeks or so.

Being a 6-stringer myself and looking to the net for help, I've discovered that most stuff is done for a 3 string CBGr not a 4 (which I own). However, if you get info on 3 string CBG's, in what ever tuning you use (I use GDGB), It works quite well and all you have to do is figure out what to do with the "B" string...easy-peasy !!

I have to admit I'm debating taking the B off :) lol. BUt I have ordered a 3 string custom built just for me and we will see how that goes. I am using the 3 string stuff and just muting the B right now.

Before taking the B off, try tuning it down a half step for Gmin.  Makes some songs rather interesting.  I played Amazing Grace in Gmin and like it fairly well.

Even better (for a beginner) crank it up to D. It's only three frets worth. If the string breaks replace it with a marginally lighter one.

I regularly do five string ones tuned gdgdg, it's about the most basic tuning there is and it's great

Thanks Way,

I've been trying a few things. But knowing there is no one way to do anything is right up my alley. I want it my way. I know it may sound silly but not having to follow any particular pattern, music or anything is very cool. For the moment I'm tuned to GDGB but that may change in the future after I learn more.

Today I decided to learn a little more about the history behind the cbg and practice. So today I'll have about 5 hours in.

Lucky thing for me it's finally raining here. :) I love it.

Lucky you, rain and a day off...I spent mine on second day of a 3 day strip and paint the porch marathon. I figger the most wasted hours of my life are, painting and mowing the lawn...but when it comes to painting I'd rather take a beating !!LOL
