Another question....I've seen a few builds on here with the acoustic guitar style bridge with pins. Do these work well on CBG's? I've read a fair bit on here about the tension required and wondered if that's a problem for the bridge pin setup. I'm only building 3-strings so I guess the tension is minimal?.....

Looks great - thanks for sharing that!

I agree with some of what you say, yes there are a bunch of guys on this site who talk about building a lot more than they actually build, yes there are a bunch of guys on this site who use these questions to demonstrate their googling skills, as if the asker who somehow found this site does not possess their uncanny skills with a search engine.  And yes, they are generally the first couple of responders, like seagulls to an abandoned chip.

But where on earth is 14BuckBass questioning your (or the original posters) literacy ??

BTW the pic below looks great.  And sure, you've used pins.  But its hardly a typical acoustic guitar use of them now is it?

In fact what you've built is a floating bridge, one that you can easily push back and forth until it is in tune, one which you can easily slide out and sand a millimetre off the feet of if necessary.

some might feel that you are demonstrating your own limited abilities at literacy.

Angry posts beget angry posts.

Chill out.

well,G.B.G,don,t really get where you,re coming from,3 of the guy,s who responded prior to yourself, have adviised, helped me many times,i,ve come to find there comments to mine and others queries, useful at the least, and generally on the money,i assume you accidently loaded the wrong pic of your bridge arrangement

Golf tees eh?.....a way I could include my other passion! That's tempting ;-)

Pins in the tail?....hadn't considered that...

Haha...thanks Wayfinder...I think ;-)

i thought you were talking about acustic style bridge like this one. i did this and there was a bit to it. that in no means says don't try it. by all means man give er a whirl. im not attempting to know it all. but i can pass along the little bit i do. have fun most of all. that's what i do no ill feelings toward anyone.

Nice!

My first attempt at a compensated bridge, not my last or even most recent.

Pins are lathe turned bone with ebony dots made from scrap pieces.

When reading posts consider:

Some folks build significantly more CBGs than the amount of posted photos indicate.

Some even build structures in the real world that are required to sustain extreme forces safely.

Some have to negatively comment about others because of the miserable pathetic nature of their own insignificant existence.

So read everything, verify any info given, and decide for yourself what's what.

Here here...

Also...
Photos don't tell the whole story, not by a long shot. Some look great but don't play in tune, some might play a zillion times better than they look.

At any rate, sometimes guys ask a question and get a bunch of conflicting responses. There should be no doubt this can be done. Some guys judge it as adding quite a bit of complexity to the build, others argue 'oh no, you can do it, here's a photo proving that I did.' Well complexity or difficulty is relative isn't it? Some guys might build space shuttles for NASA for a crust, other guys might flip burgers.

Have a crack, or don't. Get a nice axe out of it, or fuck one up and learn something. It's all the journey. Have fun with it :)
