Okay, follow the progression with me:

1.  Leo Fender comes up with a new innovative design that would revolutionize the guitar forever (about the same time as Les Paul, but whatever).

2.  Fender company starts making guitars.  They are specifically designed to cut costs and be easier to repair but they are still hand made by honest to god luthiers and are pretty damned good instruments.

3.  Utilzing new breakthroughs in CNC technology, low cost labor, globalization, and outsourcing, the Fender guitar morphs into a computer generated piece of plastic, thereby cementing the company's new status as a widget manufacturer.

4.  Mobile phones?  Really?  http://www.t-mobilemytouch.com/?WT.mc_id=720m3

From this point forward, anyone that tries to extol to me personally the virtues of the Fender guitar will be mocked and scoffed at with extreme humor (I will not insert myself into conversations that others are holding).

Just a fair bit of warning - don't bring up Fender to me without being ready to hear me go off on a rant.

Too far to come hang out...unfortunately but, fortunately far enough that you wont show up and whoop me either....
I don't disagree with everything you've said... in fact, I agree with most of it.

My point was just that I think that saying "a real instrument has had human hands all over it" somehow implies that an instrument that hasn't had human hands is therefore not "real," and therefore not worth playing (or hearing, or making music on, etc). And that I disagree with.
Hey now, I just meant that one statement irked me. If it came out as me name-calling, I apologize: that was not my intention.

What I'd really love to do is hang out with Josh and Jkevn (and anyone else who wants to come n hang out) and talk about guitars, play some music, drink some beer, and have a good time.

Much as I love talking, and as much as I love talking about guitars, I'd rather follow Frank's advice anyday: Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar!

Josh, if I call you a gear snob, will you build me one...or at least let me hang out and help with Nathan's? I'll let you talk on my new Clapton phone....it has a six string thing built in.....
If I thought it was anything more than a good-natured ribbing....I would have butted out, well maybe not, but I was just here for the fun....
I aint a guitar player....been a drummer for 30+ years.....I think Josh is right on with his Music for the Masses rant.....stamp, sell, repeat. I dont think yer old squire was the focus of his rage. After all, after 11+ years its had enough of your human hands on it to make it an instrument. It's the same rage against the machine that leads us all to the hand-made instrument world....aint it?
It's not like the really built the thing. And I gotta admit, the guitard thingie app is kinda cool. I could see the Preacher at church getting on to me for playing it during service.
But, I feel ya on the fender hatin'.
I am NOT a Fender fan,
Peavey is da way to go.
Although as a bass player I dig Roscoe's ( just a few miles from me btw).
And Warwicks are just beasts waiting to be unleashed.
I would trade one of my daughters for a Corvette fretless.

But if it has a note higher than low G, I'll build my own , thank you very much.

Matt
As a guy that built my own guitar I hear what you two are saying. Mine is mine and no one has one the flame maple neck is just right for my hand and the ebony fretboard it a work of art and the cherry red and amber ( my own mix ) will only be seen on this body I designed and built with my two hands. That being said the price they charge for a cookie cut guitar ( Fender/ Gibson / and so on ) is f en BS it is almost all built over seas yah they say made in the USA no it is finished here and still that is not done with care. Take the fret job on a Les Paul I spent a lot for it had a buzz at the 3 fret I had to do a fret level and dressing right out of the case. I feel that good craftmenship has at least in the two major brands south.Dont get me wrong if you love your Fender/ Gibson and so on great I'm just saying true craftmenship is hard to come by now days. I am always reminded of this when I play my Lp and then pick up" El Fuego " my guitar.
Fuck Fender. Fender is part of Fender Musical Instruments Corp. which owns Gretsch. Gretsch threw a cease and desist order against Daddy Mojo because FMIC claimed they owned the GODDAMN RECTANGLE SHAPE of the Bo Diddley guitar. They claimed that every fucking cigar box guitar was a violation of their patent. BTW, I saw the patent for the Bo Diddley Guitar...it is so generalized, anything close to rectangle could qualify. A pure piece of shit.

Well, Daddy Mojo contacted his lawyers...and he contacted me. We showed FMIC the deep history of cigar box guitars and how they existed not just before the Bo Diddley patent...but way before Fred Gretsch was a twinkle in his daddy's eye.

Fender can blow me.
I didn't make that offer lightly. I'm laying the gauntlet down on you, son. I'll make a guitar that does all my talking for me.

btw, FMIC backed down after Daddy Mojo bitch slapped them to the floor.
Never felt like I was being name-called, bro. I got skin thicker than boiled leather.

Oh yah the phone if I can't plug my guitar into it it should not say Fender on it.
No shit? Jesus, just one more reason to hate. There is nothing so wrong, so absolutely fucked up as a company that produces what are supposed to be musical instruments being run by a bunch of god damned lawyers.

Also, interesting how they don't lay the order on every "custom builder" out there that just copies the strat and tele shapes.

The whole god damned industry is incestuous. Makes me feel dirty.
