Hi
Has anyone sorted some decent
Free or paid software for iPhone 5 Or 4
For recording Mp3 or wav format

I have a ih2 with tascAm software
But file sharing is less than easy

Is garage band the best? Or Amplitude?

Has anyone got any tips to what works
So I can record a mp3 and email it to my computer?
Or process it.

Thanks for any tips

Free is good!!
But if it's decent I don't mind paying
If it works well.

Garage band is definitely the best value for money, although it is a little fiddly on the iPhone screen, it's awesome on the pad. It's around ten bucks got great fx, amps, loop player, the smart drums fantastic value. My fav amp sim is Jamup pro, but you gotta spend a bit on that to have all the amps and fx. I'd definitely start with garage band.
Warning! Longwinded Oily post!

Second what the Kid sez about GarageBand. I use it on the iPad all the time. It is $4.99 from the App Store. The included drums, keyboards, amp models, etc., are great, too, but do take some tweaking to get just right. Additional Apple Loops for drums, etc, can be purchased separately. You may also want to invest in something like the iRig mic, which is $60, and plugs into the headphone jack on an iPhone and iPad; it has 3 switchable sensitivity settings, is far easier to use and position than the internal mic on the phone or pad, is sturdily built (similar to a Shure SM 58, and roughly the same size), and has a built-in headphone jack for recording monitoring. I just record and arrange my tracks in GB, then e-mail them to myself.

Be aware that output is Apple's m4a format, so you'll have to convert if you want mp3 format. I take my e-mailed GB tracks, then I use the free program Audacity to convert them to mp3 and EQ them, as GB's EQ is primitive. Audacity is a hugely powerful signal editor in it's own right, and can be used standalone to record as well. I have done lots of theatrical sound effects loops using it on a laptop and desktop, in both Windows and Mac formats. If you decide to use Audacity only, you may want to invest in a decent USB mic; I favor any of the Blue offerings, but the really nice ones are expensive. The Blue Snowflake runs $60, the Snowball $70, and they even have a special iOS one for $100. I have used a friend's Snowball for recording work presentations on a laptop, which worked a treat.

I also use AmpliTube. I started with the free version, then went straight to the $14.99 pro version, right after GB had an update that wasn't backward compatible with my old iPad. The pro version features 8 tracks arranged on an old-school reel-to-reel tape interface, is compatible with the iRig mic, and is only slightly more involved to use than GB (which is pretty easy; I used to have an old Ampeg R2R, so was familiar with that format). It, too, has in-app amp model purchase packs available. Songs are output in mp3 format, so no conversion issues. Same thing, e-mail recorded tracks to yourself.

About half the songs on my first album were recorded in GB, the other half in AmpliTube. I've since upgraded my iPad, and the latest version of GB, which I now use exclusively (although AmpliTube is still there for backup). I still use Audacity to EQ and format convert.
Damn hasn't he worn that keyboard out yet?

Tip for dealing with m4a files...
Try just renaming the extension to mp4 ;)

If you have iTunes on your computer you can export the file to a garage band for mac file in the iPhone/iPad. Then you connect up to the USB and drag the .garageband file onto your desktop. It's a bundle, a folder that's disguised as a single file, but if you right click and 'show package contents' or similar you can browse the individual audio tracks :) enjoy
No, but my right forefinger has a callus ;-)

Thanks guys this is great tips
I had garage band on an iPhone but my memory wasn't big enough to do
Too much so deleted it to record HBs concert
I have an I rig so will try with than and maybe download garage band on the kids /wife's
Pad. Will be a fight.
I normally use a pc and a line 6 ux1 which I love
But it's a faf to set up
Sony acid pro is good too
But will have a go with an app
As it will be handy and easy to take about.
Thanks for the tips
Lets see how I get on....

Recorder using I rig acoustically and then emailed as a MP4 and processed with some reverb using acid pro turned into a MP3

based on a riff in g from shanes 4 string lesson

kinda works
