Anyone ever do a build with one of these?

I found a supplier who ships these for less than it would cost me to buy the piezo, output jack and volume knob separately. And they even included the 9V battery.

My acoustic bass guitar has a very similar pickup in it, and it works quite well, so I think it should be effective enough. I will mount it on the top face of the box so the player will have easy access to it.

The downside is that it doesn't look even a little bit "retro" or handcrafted, and it turned out to be harder than expected to recess the unit into the side of the box. If you look closely you can see that the unit has a wavy front face designed to sit on the side of a normal acoustic guitar, which makes it pretty hard to deal with on a flat box. But for the price they are asking, you can't be too choosy.

Warning: Shipping is free, but in my experience it takes a LONG time.

Thanx Greg - looks like they have other good deals as well.

DX has great deals, but in the past I have had items I've ordered go on backorder for 3 weeks before shipping. Then you wait another 3-4 weeks for delivery. I have learned to only order stuff I am prepared to wait for.

greg, used 1 of these, pretty good, also disassembled another, unfortunately, the screws in the posts are moulded over, but ,cut the posts, seperate the battery holder and bount the thing straight in your box,if you want disregard the batt check button and led,4 slots and 1 8mm holeand you are ok,control arms are reasonably long and should extend thru a 1/4 side ok,don,t know if you need to maintain an airspace, but probably a good idea

Yeah, Greg, the woodwork on that build, and the whole recess for the preamp unit, reeeeelllyyy sux.

Not! >:-E

Actually, I think it looks pretty nice that way. I've done some looking for non-wavy bezel pre units from China...they do exist, but they want you to buy 500 minimum order!
