Just finished my first build.
CBG plays nice, but getting a hum / buzz from the pickup when its not wide open (volume on CBG).
I can touch the volume knob or the cord end that goes to the amp and it all
but stops.

Wiried like diagrams. Everything is grounded.
Sounds like a grounding thing to me.

Any ideas ????

Should the strings be grounded ?
If so, how on a wood bridge ?

Ok update for help.
I have two pickups. Both from ted.
The bridge is a piezo pick up , no buzz here.
The one with the buzz is Magnetic pickup Stonehenge (ted).

From what I read the magnetic pickups need strings grounded.
Correct ?

I can fix this by adding a ground wire to my tail piece.
Any other ideas ??????
Hi,
I have the same problem. However, when I grounded the strings through the tailpiece (wood bridge - resonator) the buzz got much worse!

I'm going to try shielding around the pickup, pot and switch with copper tape next.

Dom
Took a piece of cooper wire , attached it to the output jack ground
and wrapped it around the strings by the tail piece.
Helped Slightly ! Not much !

Help ?
Ever thought of trying a noise gate pedal between guitar and amp?
Once you are playing the gate opens.

I also would have grounded against the tailpiece where the strings get attatched.
It sounds like some shielding is going to be needed. What kind of wiring did you use to hook it all up?
Is definately a point. I have seen some nasty telephone wire jobs done on both single coils and humbuckers.
Using shielded wiring for the whole operation really helps, and keep the wiring distances as short as you can.

before you get crazy with shielding, check your solder connections... most piezo's and humbuckers shouldn't hum... You can try grounding, but I would look for "cold solder" joints or just resolder everything.... take your time, make sure that iron is hot and hold the joint still until it is throughly cooled....

the best,

yup!!!

If your wiring is all good & the strings are grounded, it's likely to be a dodgy guitar lead. If replacing the lead doesn't work I'd try wiring it without the volume pot in the circuit to c if it's faulty
I gotta tell ya, Ive tryed all this as I have the same problem. The only way I get rid of the buzzzzzzzz is to get rid of the volume jack. This is a pain in the a$$ that buzzzzzz it is
