Comments on pics and videos

I noticed I haven't been getting an email when I somebody comments on my pictures or videos lately.
I went to the email settings on my home page and clicked all the little boxes over and over but it seems like from now on when ever you add a picture or video you have to manually go down to the bottom of the page and click a link that says Follow.
I have 100s of pictures and a lot of videos and it if I want to know if somebody leaves a comment now I gotta go back to each freakin picture and hit that follow button ?!?!
Just wondering if anybody else is having the same problem or knows a fix for it.
