Just wondering if any one else ever expirenced this. I have been buying some parts at a locale music store, just when I needed something right away. I have been  talking to the repair man and he seemed genuinely interested in what I was doing. Well I took two of my CBG'si n today and really and really got the cold shoulder. You know, like , yea that is really nice but it is not a real instrument. I don't know, made me wish I would have never taken it in there. Just wondering if anyone else out there ever had this happen. Does not deter me any though and all my buyers have been very pleased.

Slow paw, I think you hit on something that strikes a chord with me. I love music and have always wanted to just sit down and play. Took guitar lessons for several years. Spent hours in shops drooling over expensive guitars that I thought would make me able to play. I never could. Out of all those lessons as a kid , I remembered G C D & F . With no idea what to do with them. Four years ago I stumbled across a video on the Internet of someone playing a CBG . I didn't think I would be able to play one but I damn sure thought I could build one. Sat on the thought of building one until this past August. I built the first one as a retirement gift for a friend, and so began the addiction :-) I am now up to # 13 . I have learned more about music on this 35 dollar CBG in three months , than in three years of expensive lessons. I believe there in lies the threat. Less expensive, easier to play and sounds great .

This site and all the how to videos are a huge help also

i  can see how music shops here in uk make a living, there must be 1000s of guitars behind sofas, ender beds etc that never get played and probably never will 'cos someone bought an expensive model over a budget guitar.i can remember a friend in the 60s getting turned down by a band because he was playing a guitar from Woolworths (yes a Teisco) even tho' he was a better player the the strat  boy.. shear snobbery

FEA. And I'm not spreaking of enginering.......

Not me, I took one of mine to a music store and a young guy working there picked it up, plugged it into and amp and just played the hell out of it! I almost just gave it to him cause I don't think it wanted to come home with me anymore after that! But I finally made it get back in the car and go home!
I guess it just depends on who you come into contact with.

One of the first ones that I sold, I did not want to sell it. I had intended on keeping for myself. The guy had already bought one but said he wanted the other for his son. So, reluctantly I let it go. 30 minutes later he calls me on the phone and says listen to this. Music was on the other end, so I said yea , what web site you on? He said, Jeff that is Austin my son :-) this kid was layin' down on something I made ! That was the flipping coolest thing ever to me. Anyway like you said Bluesheart, just depends on who you come in contact with.

I honestly haven't gotten a cold shoulder at any of the music stores I frequent-so far anyway. In fact one local Redphish will hook up my build into an amp (if i've electrified it) and test it out for tone, tune and comfort-even offered me a few cardboard ukulele and guitar boxes. They know i'm not after their clientele(apples/oranges) and that I order fretwire, tuning machines and strings through them as a regular. In fact my local store let's me go through their 'spare parts' box periodicly and gives me a lowball deal on them.

"You know, like , yea that is really nice but it is not a real instrument." LOL

Maybe we should video me taking in my toilet seat resonator
And ask what strings they would recommend?
Or my flying teapot ?
To see what they say?

The old CBG cold shoulder. I have taken my CBG's into 4 independent music store, they like to talk about them but when you bring them in they think your tring to sale them instant cold shoulder. They accept the 6 strings much more then a 3 string, bug your right they don't get it.

I've never got on with music shops in general so I'm not surprised at what happened to you.  There's a snobby attitude in music shops that I've always hated and they make me feel uneasy.  I've got a fair collection of 6 string guitars which cost me a lot, but none of them have given me as much of a buzz as building and playing my own little piece of shit CBG.

Ones still got my parlour in for resto 2 year on and
Still waiting!!!
Maybe it's time to pull it out?

100% agree with Uncle Gus and Slowpaw Steve. I sometimes get that cold shoulder even from "civilians", I mean not music store guys. They got their minds so haunted by brands and trends that they cannot get the idea of making music with an instrument they haven't seen on TV.
