On my fourth build, and I plan on using a bar type pezio for the first time, how is everyone mounting them? Are you mounting them on the inside of the box,or outside?Any and all help will be appreciated.

i generally mount them as close to the strings as possible, if you can, directly under the bridge so that the two are touching

ive even used them as the actual bridge a few times. they work by picking up the vibration of the string so the more direct contact the better

I've seen a few st up like that, but will the strings eventually cut into the pezio and ruin it like that?

Check out Randy Bretz' bridge / rod piezo / saddle combos. Basically, he makes a slot in his Spectrawood bridge deep enough to hold the rod piezo, then puts a buffalo bone saddle directly atop that. The bridge has a tiny hole for the wire to feed down into the box, but itself is typically not glued down to the top of the box.
I used a 1/8" brass nipple for my bridge and glued it in there with silicone and put brass caps on and it sounds great

I built and glued this one around the piezo with scraps of ebony. The piezo is under the maple piece.

I cut a kerf in a strip of wood leaving about a 1/16 wood at the bottom. The rod piezo goes nicely in the 1/8" kerf with a wood or corian strip as a saddle fitting over the piezo .  I notice a definite advantage for the rod piezo sound quality.
