Context.

That does sound pretty harsh, but must be taken in context of the Word of God. When Jesus died for our sins and rose again, he broke death's power over us. His resurrection also negated the Law (Old Testament) which was looking ahead to Christ's redemption of sinners (all of us). Now, the only thing that matters is:

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 10:13
for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Kill People for Working on the Sabbath

The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.' (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)

"context" a very dangerous word. has often led to wars, starting in the mid-east sometime in the late 11th century and ending.......????
that's another point I'm sure religion must be the # 1 killer in the world

olds
NO worries I'll see you there..
Remember, humans are fallibile and make mistakes - especially when they cling to their beliefs, many of which are taken out of context.

Don't take the many mistakes people (Christians) make as representative of whom they follow.

You should always compare what people say the Bible says to the actual Bible, whether they are a preacher, friend, etc. There is no point in arguing about that the Bible says if you can't point to the exact place you are arguing about - otherwise it's just hearsay.

most religious wars have had nothing to do with religion usualy its money or power at the root of those wars. most religions preach peace not war. and a Christian war is an oxyjmoron all to gether the very last thing Jesus would have wanted is for you or any one else to kill. as a true chistian you would be much better off dieing in the name of christ. rather than killing in the name of christ.

Matt,

Do you read an ancient medical journal and decide that modern doctors are bad, because someone, somewhere suggested that you "bleed" the patient to release evil "humors"?

Read OT in the context.... there's usually a point for that day and a principal for today.... I'll extend this coversation in the chapel if you wish....

your right I don't believe in bloodletting, we were in a time when we had little understanding of the world. That's the same reason it's hard to follow what men wrote in the bible. However I'm not bashing God, just mans version.

Well Matt if I may because I learned the hard way and lost much time in coming to understand the word of God, or I should say life long learning. But if you believe in the bible God's Word then you have to understand yes men did write the bible, but at the inspiration (direction) of the holy spirit. Also remember that the bible was translated out of the original languages at that time. And even today with all the experts they still miss what was actually said. Man can mess up in ytranslations but God Word always remains true.
