How's that for a thread title? Anyway ...

Let's say a hypothetical good-looking man was busy building a cigar box amplifier, and was so distracted that he accidentally drilled two input jack holes instead of one. (Of course, this would never happen in real life!)

But if this did happen, how should said builder go about making the best of a bad situation? Should he just add another input jack in a straightforward way, or should he add an input jack that would somehow be somewhat different from the "normal" one? Like a "hi-gain" and a "lo-gain"? Or something completely different?

Let's further suppose that the poor hypothetical dimwit had limited knowledge of wiring and circuitry in general. Is there an easy option that would pass for, say, doing something on purpose?

humm   if   such a  thing could ever happen  ,,,  i would suggest    making the  hole  a   bit  bigger  to    fit a slide  nice and snug .  .

an " opps  i did that      on purpose"    slide holder  .   ;-)

If this hypothetical situation were somehow to occur in real life then, if the extra hole was visible, I would suggest fitting a nice red light to show that the amp was on. You can't beat the reassuring glow of a red light.

I have no idea how these lights are wired up, but that's another question. I'm lucky if I grab the right end of the soldering iron but there are people who know about wires on this forum somewhere.

  1. Duct Tape
  2. Headphone Jack
  3. Masking Tape
  4. Dual Input Jack
  5. Bad-Ass Flaming Skull Decal
  6. Coin/Superglue

I would just put another pu in - say a rod piezo if your original was a disk and change them via the jack.  kind of a redneck switch :-).

Bluesman finger puppet storage.
Extra unwired jack to confuse the curious.
Heat exchange hole.
Enlarged slot for amp coin bank.
Entry port for further hypothetical musings.
Spare sound hole receptacle.
Cigar holder.
Bluesmouse front door.
Pick dispenser.
Gateway to alternate universe.

"Cigar holder." That made me laugh out loud!

Thanks guys, keep those ideas coming!

If this happened to a hypothetical good-looking man he should do one of the following:

1. Put a LED light there to show the amp is on

2. Add a input jack for headphones

3. Make several more around the amp for looks

4. Make it bigger or longer for a sound whole

Hypothetically, if said dimwit drilled the two holes next to each other then one could possibly make the two holes into one big hole, make a nice neat round metal jack plate to cover both and install the jack in the middle of it. Man all this talk of holes, think I'll ave a beer.

There ya go: you need to install a bottle opener!

hypothetically, who is the good looking man with a beer opener in his hole?

When another good-looking guy I know did this, he made it into a speaker output jack,  then he realized he would need a switch to turn off the internal speaker because he wasn't clever enough to wire the output jack as a switch which would turn it off automatically.  So he had to add another hole.

How else are you going to pour the extra sound out after playing?
