Yes, I cut mine with a sharp diagonal pliers. You could also pick up a cheap uke piezo rod on ebay for about 4 bucks

just make sure after you cut it that you test it out to make sure it is still working. Sometimes when you cut them the tiny brass plates inside touch each other and the rod won`t work, Just take a pair of pliers and resquare the cut end. Also it works better if you cut the rod on the side rather from the top.

Rob,

They cut fine, Just cut at the lower portion, not the raised.
