A door hinge? A piece of metal with holes in it? Drill holes in the end of the neck... if it's a neck-through?

yes it is neck through

A bent fork or spoon. See my trapeze fork tailpieces in the Photos on my Profile Page. A harmonica. Grandpa's prized pre-1930 mint condition silver dollar. 3 or 4 very strong dwarfs with not much to do all day.

Anything with holes in it that a string ball end won't pass through.

probably my fav, easiest.. a bit of trimming off the neck, effectively the bit that would stick thru lopped off, turned on its side and screwed thru the box side and into the neck's end

this one here is a scrap of sheet steel wrapped in leather, the steel is necessary to ground the strings

this is an old one that I did in only a couple hours, used a bit off an old boot that was lying around

oh my thats an oldie.. :D

be original mate, theres more stuff around that can be a tailpiece than there is stuff than cannot.  enjoy

thanks for the suggestions, It's time to be creative

Hi Jim, Have a look at the video on my home page called "Bridges and Tails". You might find some ideas that you like there. Regards John Drake

found so many great ideas, Thanks a lot John

a shamisen "tailpiece" knot?

The blades from a metal vegetable steamer work pretty well as trapeze-y-like tailpieces, especially for 4-strings. Just screw it on and string it up. Plus, you get something like 18 of them out of one vegetable steamer.

Very cool man, what a great idea and it looks great, thanks

The bottom section of the steamer makes a great cover for a resonator.
