Hi all, today I read a thread about Townes Van Zandt which led me research (go on Youtube) him further. This is an artist that I had no knowledge of before and I was delighted when I looked him up. Thanks to Oily for this.

So I thought I would start a discussion where we could list interesting artists that may be obscure overseas or unique or anything that you like that you feel may appeal to others. Its not a thread to list Black Sabbath or Zeppelin but something a little different.

I will start the ball rolling with a few that some of you may like.

The Poopmen. Yes it was a real band fromm the early 90's. They rocked!

I would love to see a vid. Can you point me to a youtube link or anything?

how about William Elliot Whitmore, or Kasey anderson. I also like William Fitzimmons. I never think of Dave Alvin as obscure but who knows. Also check out Hammill on trial. Kimya Dawson and the low Anthem.

A fantastic selection. Hammel on Trial was just crazy and the low Anthem were very soulful, All great offerings Thanks. Today I have found some great new music.

Note the kalimba being played in the first verse.

If you like Frank Zappa or Captain Beefheart, you may want to check out my late friend, Zoogz Rift.

Oh man. This is clever stuff. Really enjoyed watching the vids. Did he produce any albums?

I'm glad you liked his music!

Zoogz released over 40 albums.

"The Baseboard Heaters" are a band i really like but can hardly find any info about them at all - i covered their song "Worst Enemy" last year when i didn't have many songs of my own (might do it again) , i have 2 of their CD's.(-:

One of my favorites is Olds Sleeper.  He is a brilliant song writer, excellent singer, and outstanding all-around musician. Very gifted individual.

Yep, mine too Mike! (-:

This is a good one.   I can not come  with anyone obscure, but some of my out of the mainest stream folks would be Iowans Greg Brown and William Elliot Whitmore.   Dan Reeder, Gillian Welch and my favorite bluesman, Guy Davis.  Oh, Maybe Lazy Lester too and Justin Townes Earle.
