I finally found a nice box on ebay but with shipping, it cost me $21.  Where is a good place to find them?  Do the smoke stores have empty boxes.  I am just starting my first build.  I think it's…Continue

Building a neck through cbg. Have to cut down the neck that goes inside the box. Is it best to leave a small space between the lid and neck?  If so, how do you attach the neck. I've seen both styles.…Continue

"I checked out your pics today. Nice Gits. I love the bass!  That will be my third build for my wife. She is a bass player. My 2nd build will have a heavier neck and a 1/4" walnut fretboard,  and frets.  Can't wait to get…"

"Thanks John for the comment on my first build.  It looks great but I can't seem to get it to sound great.  I had to use a big nut because the tuner posts stick up so high, thus a high action.  I guess thats ok for a fretless…"

Finally finished with my first build. Action came out pretty high but it is fretless and will play with a slide. It doesn't seem to sound as good as some I've heard on-line though. Could be because I don't know what I'm doing with a slide also. I…

First CBG Build

"Yep, you have to watch what you buy. The Cigar Box Central site has the dimensions listed so you can make sure you are getting a box that is big enough to use for a guitar. I have purchased quite a few from them. "

Hi Mark,

I'm glad to have you for a nation friend.  I like the look of your shell casing finger board and the guitar in general.  I used to build neck throughs like you are doing.  I think they are the best first builds and always good for slide.  But some of mine developed neck bow- so I started building heavier in the neck.   I hope yours plays and sounds as good as it looks.

   John
