The simplest little resonator instrument of all. Please add links to plans, photos of your canjos and ideas you've found that make the most of this diminutive instrument. (The image is a temporary placeholder, I'll replace it any day now!)

What to plug that thing in? Here's a place to share ideas about pickups (Both magnetic and piezo) and wiring the odd volume and tone control.

Jack Bradshaw's Homemade Appalachian Instruments

I have been woodworking for 36 years and caught the musical instrument construction bug when I met my friend, CanJoe*John, in 2002. He needed help keeping up with the canjoe demand during Christmas that year and I decided to help. I soon joined him in the CanJoe Company production helping create, design, and selling canjoe instruments, but I also have created many other various stringed instruments that reflect my own style and Appalachian heritage. Besides the instruments, I also design and build many other wood craft items but I love to make high quality canjoes as a member of the CanJoe Company team.

Jack, you have some nice builds. Great job. I saw on one of your builds where you made the box, the walls looks thick. I noticed you had installed jack in the end wall. I just finished drilling a hole for my jack, found out after I inserted the jack, the jack is too short. Do jacks come longer than a normal size? Will I have to sand out a place so the jack will reach all the way through the wall? I felt like a dummy, cause I didn't measure it before I drilled the hole. Your help will be most appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome aboard, Jack! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBU, CBB, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc. -- I see you are ahead of me here already).

Most of all, have fun!
