Most of my builds incorporate nylon strings, oftentimes fishing line (you can see pictures of these on my page). By the way, I can get the nylon strings to sound as dirty as I want using overdrive and distortion (as evidenced on "Mountains", a son I posted on my page as well. Some have solved the problem with truss rods, others with a through the box stick design. Study the photos page. For your 1st build I would suggest a through the box stick, using a hard wood like oak or poplar. (By the way, my two steel string builds are a 6 string fretless and a fretted 12 string.)
