"Firstly, thank you so much for your generous nature. I've been wanting to play a CBG again like you wouldn't believe. Secondly, your son probably works just down the street from me. If you talk to him, ask him if he works on Pine Green…"

"Hi LCpl, Welcome to the Nation. Special props to a Marine. My daughter and son in law are stationed in Lejeune right now. She spent 4 years in, and he is a gunny in ammo, Dustin Kershaw.   I don't have a CBG handy that I can send you right…"

LCpl Los, Currently Serving as a Telephone/PC Repair Tech, USMC, Stateside

Hey guys, I'm a LCpl in the USMC, currently stationed in Camp Lejeune with 2d Maint. BN, ELMACO. I've been trying to make a CBG for months, as my very first one was destroyed while living in the barracks by a fellow Marine throwing a temper tantrum. It was especially painful, because it was the very day that I finished working on it. Now that I'm in the Fleet Marine Force, the hectic hours and PT/Unit training schedule, as well as being newly married, have all but made it impossible for me to…See More

"Hey, thanks for the warm welcome. I appreciate the advice, and I'm definitely staying true to the box, haha. I'm a firm believer in the KISS acronym. MY main question is, what is the most solid way to attach the neck to the body? Will the…"

No Rules, but lots of good guidelines and helpful info. Box size: almost any size will work, wood for the neck, even an old pine 2x4 will work, frets or no, yep either will do it. Really, just ask, this is the most helpful place for musical instruments on the internet. Keep your head down, ears up.

My problems initially were with neck bending, especially with steel strings. Most of my builds incorporate nylon strings, oftentimes fishing line (you can see pictures of these on my page). By the way, I can get the nylon strings to sound as dirty as I want using overdrive and distortion (as evidenced on "Mountains", a son I posted on my page as well. Some have solved the problem with truss rods, others with a through the box stick design. Study the photos page. For your 1st build I would suggest a through the box stick, using a hard wood like oak or poplar. (By the way, my two steel string builds are a 6 string fretless and a fretted 12 string.) Hope this helps! Good luck!

Welcome to the Nation, Chet! I saw your chat room post you made earlier (I just got home...lol). First of all, NO RULES. Check out the photos section to see what I mean. The Zen of it is this: Be true to the box, and it will be true to you. Start with something simple, then EXPAND on it. But watch out! It could get addictive and it could get LOUD!
