To FerneL. Your cutouts look fine except for the chip outs. I don't know how to prevent that except put some quality tape on the outside of the lines you're cutting. Dosen't always work. I used a jig saw & files (not the best way). If you are using a standard size humbucker, you can cover most mistakes up with the mounting ring. They come in all heigths

I finally found another Fluer De Whatever box & will probably put it with the neck I have & make another bass. I have everything for a two pick up ACTIVE setup I may try to use.

thank you for your replies: for james durham: different texture, they are softer, my scale is 450mm. they have difficult to stay tuned for a few weeks. I have attached a little file because I'm not a bass player

About half finished with my latest CB Bass. Will post some build pics in a day or two. Also finishing up a four string (nothing special, just a Punch intended for sale) & a cool black 6 string with a Epi LP neck. Just finished a Mex Strat in USMC camo & a set of rare 70's Sunn pick ups. Still experimenting with my ground up custom LP, have 27 different pickup combos so far. Happy Halloween, go scare someone!

just finished my first bass, ashbory style .  Macanudo box, walnut neck, i bought both silicone rubber strings and tuners  from largesound store. piezo from c.b. gitty and potentiometers from china.

Just rewound a ventage Kay bass guitar pick up using oversize motor shop wire ( .006) .The old pick up was open. Could only get 2800 turns on the bobbin.  I remagnitized the magnet using super high strenght magnets from our motor shop. I gave it to the original owner who started playing it about 40 years ago. He says it sounds better then his $1400. Gibson???   Quite  surprised it even works

your overlap will be dictated by the size of your box in relation to your chosen scale - which will depend on if you intend to use bass strings.

There is less room for choice of scale lenghth if using bass strings -you need the distance between the tail stop and machine head to line up with the thinned sections of the strings at the head stock end ( if you know what I mean) .

There are short scale bass strings ( 30" scale) available but strangely they are quite a bit more expensive than 34" as you can't get cheap and cheerful 30" but you can 34"!!
