Comment by carverman on November 22, 2010 at 6:35am: Installing polarized caps depends on the type of cap and whether
it is used in an a/c circuit or a dc circuit. Electrolytics
cannot be installed backwards in a dc circuit, as they will heat up and explode.
Foil. mylar or other constructions will work ok, depending on
frequencies used. The black line on a polarized cap generally
means the outside of the foil wrap/container or case that should
be connected to ground if used as a bypass. As a signal cap,
it doesn't matter which way.

a soft steel or permalloy which is 80% iron and 20% nickel.
Most screws are some form of mild steel. So they will work as the
magnet's flux will transmit through the screw to the string.

Gitty has a wiring tutorial on his website: http://www.cbgitty.com/content/view/37/43/ - the diagrams are good and should answer your questions. I use 250k pots for piezos, although some people recommend 500k audio taper pots. It just depends on what I have in my workshop.... I haven't noticed any real difference between the 250k and the 500k on piezos....

I just noticed that I put them in my smokey amp reversed, it worked fine but I changed them to the correct way and the amp works the same. I did not know they were polarized till I read more, live and learn.
