Comment by Uncle John on December 26, 2019 at 4:21pm: Ok. Yeah, those pre-amps have been good for me except for one I bought on ebay that took 2 watch batteries instead of the 9v battery I expected. Try turning down the gain. Those pre-amps are meant for more acoustic tone than hot electric.
