Having trouble finding videos or instruction on how to fit the neck to the box.
I  want to make my first  CBG with the neck ending inside the box. After making the U shaped cutout on the front side, is the neck glued to the base or the lid?
Does the neck go the full length of the box?
I  would have thought the less timber inside the box the better the sound.
Be gentle with your replies please :)

Hi again, I had these photos ready to post, but posted the ones you see above instead. However, after reading Pick's post Item 2 outlining fitting the neck to the top, as a possible way to go I thought you may find it interesting to see the way I did it.

I hope that was gentle enough Jill. Ha ha

I really appreciate the way all the guys on the Forum help with very useful advice, without putting me down for my inexperience and silly questions.
I  like your 'frank' CBG taffy, nice and simple, and these pics are worth a 1,000 words - thank you for sharing.
Any chance of seeing these box lid catches please?
Also, how would you fit a piezo disk to this - just glue to the underside of the lid?
Finally, ( for now)  what are the outside dimensions of this box? It appears to be nice and deep to allow lots of  air vibration.
Ooops, that raised another question, where does the sound come out of this box?  :)

Be patient please :)
Jill

Hi again, again, Thanks for your interest.

The box as you noticed is a decent dept and has a reasonable output with less of a stringy sound and more full sound, as in low and high tones. But still a lot quieter than my larger boxes. This one is 9.5" x 6" x 3".

Check out the What effects Tone thread, running at the moment, re the piezo question. It's really a matter of experimentation as these pickups are very sensitive/responsive and easily excited by vibration. So as each box is different so is the ideal placement.

Not much help there, sorry.

I did not want to highjack your thread with too many photos....but as you asked...

I'll just mention, I'm not a big fan of loose removable lids in my guitars as I like a firm-fitting top for the top work better if the acoustic output is also a consideration. You will notice that this one has part of the sides attached to it, so it works pretty well.

The sort of catches I will use, are not fitted yet. Four of whatever style works best.

Cheers Taff.

I missed your earlier post asking about the video and neck bolts, sorry.

As the neck is a push fit in its pocket cut into the end of the box there is minimal movement, and none when bolts are tightened. Spacing is same as used for an electric  six string guitar bolt on neck that uses four screws. Half the neck half the fasteners. Ha ha.

The video is one I made for my son so he could do his first CBG. I thought it sounded a bit corny me talking to him and not general veiwers. There's two parts. Hmmm, you got me thinking now.

Taff

thanks for this Taffy, you have been very helpful, and I am learning lots, but crikey it is a very steep curve :)

I spent yesterday on YouTube looking at CBG videos. To my mind, they tend to skip some steps at times, leading to more questions
.
I learn lots from your photos, so keep them coming, and looking forward to seeing your video :)...no pressurrrrre

Hi JillB, sad news about the video, it's too big for this site apparently.

It runs for 30 minutes, I watched it last night and it does. I think, answer a lot of your questions. It was for my son who is an auto mechanic with no woodwork tools.

I would have to upload it to youtube, I'm not doing that, the information is good but the presentation is a bit ragged.

When you get to gaps in the videos you are watching, make a note and ask away. There's plenty of info on here waiting to be shared.
Cheers Taff

Sounds like a great video, Taff.  You could record a new commentary over it, if you had the time.  :)

I'll try a few things, even trying to make a few episodes.

I'm not really clued up on this stuff, but the video is 821MB and the site will only accept 100MB or less, going by what read on here. The commentary is important, you can watch the how's, but need to hear the why's. Thanks for the input, Carl.
