Pickup Depth

When notching the neck under the lid for a single coil pickup, what is considered too deep that would weaken the neck? I have two 1 x 2's  in the box so a total of 1.5", coil depth is 3/4".

Hi, I would think it depends on the timber used and grain orientation. Any amount I cut out of one side I put back on the other, only longer. So if I was to cut out 40mm from the top of the neck stick, I would install maybe 150mm on the bottom. But then I do not use through necks, but if I did...........
