Hi all, I have some jobs to roll of my workbench recently, the first is this Yairi nylon guitar, 1980 model.

It was left to be by the owner who could not afford the repair, It needed a new top. Although the old top was solid timber the back and sides are laminated.

As can be seen in the photos the old top was removed as was the original rosette. A nice piece of cedar was selected as a replacement, and the original bracing was copied, also the original rosette was inlaid around the soundhole. The top was then fitted to the body as was the fingerboard and top binding, I used a new Ebony bridge, and gold tuners. Oh, and the top finish is French polish.

It all worked out well, it has a tone I like but not overly loud, maybe due to the laminated body, but could get better the more it is played. Just what I needed.............. another guitar. NOT.

Cheers Taff

Impressive work Taff!

lookin gud

Sweet! Really nice looking little strummer. I've seen those wrap around bridges. From what i hear most people like them over the old hole and pin style.

cant use the hole and pin method on nylon/classical strings Rat they dont have ball ends. same method as a Uke bridge push the string theough the hole and wrap it around 3 or 4 times..

Hi, yes the tie block style bridge is traditionally nylon strung guitars. Some steel strung guitars too, some by Takamine for one, I have made them in the past but a bit more work involved.

Some people get away with one wrap around the block but I use two. You can also buy ball end nylon strings, but normally of cheaper quality.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
