being a newbie, think i need a bit of practice building before i attack my cohiba box, so i was looking in my garage and found half a fishing box i made at school, about 43 years ago, it's held together with panel pin's and bone glue, i can still remember the smell of the melting bone's, jeeeze,

it's 13" x 10" x 3", had a look in my dad's garage and found a piece of 3-ply for the box top, glued some 1" x 1 1/2" corner piece's to screw the top to, tried a scarf joint on a old piece of pine, just used a hacksaw and a plane, did'nt turn out too bad,

Ok. Not bad. Not bad. So one thing I do (and I do what you to) is I make my scarf cut based on the length of the headstock (usually about 5-6")-- no matter the thickness of the neck which in my case is about .75", then I cut down the headstock part of the scarf to about 5/8" thick before gluing it on. Doesn't sound like a lot but your tuning pegs will thank you. Then glue, then shape the neck if desired (radius/round the back side) and then add wings if desired (if you don't know what that is, its any extensions of the headstock wider than the neck). From there, I determine the nut placement and thus the length of the neck based on scaled initially desired. I know that a 36" piece of neck stock will work.

practice scarf joint,
If you put the cut off piece on the bottom you wil have less problems with keeping the nect top flat, a important thing you will find later on, fret board or not.If you put it on the bottom you will need a little longer board or a little shorter scale.

thanks, you're right, never thought of that,,
just wondering if i used 2 out of the 3 single p/u's from the strat guitar in the pic's above, mounted side by side, would it turn into a hummbucker, they have opposing magnetic field's, and from what i've read that's what constitute's a hummbucker, or have i missed something,,??
finished my FBG, also took the gut's out of a small practice amp and found an old 8" hi-fi speaker and put them into a cutlery box, the mesh screen over the speaker hole is a frying-pan anti spatter cover,, all i need to do now is learn how to play it,, lol,

Tried a scarf joint over the weekend. I think it is too much trouble for the results. If it will make the cbg sound better, I will try again.

i think it's too much trouble as well, that's why i did'nt scarf mine, the ordinary notched head work's fine, but think i'll put a string retainer on it, get a bit more string angle over the nut,
