Like most when you buy a package of strings the bottom 2 strings tend to get used for other things like hanging things up to dry, picture hangers, muffler holder uppers etc etc...

Well today after cutting the notches in a neck I found out I didn't have enough fret wire to complete the job. Spy'n the growing bundle of 'E" strings gave me a brain flash, one of them rare moments.  I cut the string into pieces just short of the width of the neck and used carpenters glue to glue them on.  The cut makes them sit in place while the glue dries and seems to hold them ok.  The glue in the cut and the winding on the string seems to provide plenty of surface area for the glue to hold'm good...  time will tell tho

Any other uses??

I bend pieces to shape around the heel of the neck and glue them in place right against the box. It takes care of my less than perfect cut's while making the neck slot.

Internal snare for a cajon. ;-)

How do you garrote a CBG?

I can't tell Ya', the statute of limitations doesn't run out on that. (:-D)

Good point! you could take the Ebe strings and just go Ebe...

Its often the simple things that elude us....  well me anyway.

I've started making more three string than fours because I can make more of them with the pieces I get.  I'm also not musically gifted either so like those Thanksgiving left overs you keep pick'n away at them because they're to good to toss out. So now I can get rid of a few more of the fatties in a CBG legit way.  Found a place on fleabay to buy strings bulk cheaper than buying packages of strings.  So I'm only buying the ones I use most of, .024, .018 & .011's

As for leveling...  I use an old aluminum level which I can give it several whacks along the length to help seat any frets sitting to high.  Then I mark them with a marker and sand them down with a long sanding block till all the marks are gone.

Thx for the tunings for them other strings.

EBeb is one of my favorite turnings for fretted acoustic.

Just came across another use for those Fat E strings.

Seen a lot of yak'n about grounding the piezos and pots etc...  Heres what I did.  Too a fatty and soldered it onto the one side of the piezo.  Drilled a hole thru the bridge and box.  Cut a small channel with a three edged file for the wire to sit on.  Bent the wire 90 degrees and laid it in the channel with the strings pressing it down...  Works like a charm...
