I am new to the Community, but after watching a number of videos on YouTube, I am wondering if wearing a hat is required to play a CBG?

Great picture! I think, since your Christmas tree is still up, you would fit in well with Hufflepuffs.
Huh. I thought it was this way:

Slytherin: feelthy slide players
Hufflepuff: harmonicists with beeg cheeks
Ravenclaw: banjo players and mandolinists
Gryffindor: porch-sitting strummers and diddley bowlers

So...If I'm a slide playing porch-siting diddley bow strummer (with more three string fretless builds than anything else), where do I fit into the scheme of things?

Why then you are The Talented Mr. Petry and as such in a category all your own.

Easy. You speak Parseltongue, and you have a lightning scar on your forehead. Either that, or a Weasley.

I have too.....otherwise the flies use my bald spot as a landing zone.

Hats are like bras: they show respect when you take them off. Besides, you need someplace to collect your busking money.

Hats are interchangeable, and yet specific. My Camo Duck Dynasty ball cap sends one signal, while my Tyrolean fedora sends quite another. Going hatless is a sign of bravery, while wearing a hat insouciantly is a sign of...insouciance.

Hats block the sun, unless they are made of tinfoil; then, they block alien mind rays. A guitarist who wears a porkpie hat is really saying that he'd rather be a bass player, while a guitarist wearing a Cuban straw fedora is really saying that he's Carlos Santana.

Hats are only needed to play CBGs, unless you have a beret. Playing a CBG wearing a wizard's hat does not make you look mysterioso; wearing sunglasses does.
Just today, I posted on Facebook that I think I ed really born a bass player, not a guitar player.
If you make me go to the Urban dictionary one more time . . .

"Busking Money, " "Tyrolean fedora" so help me God . . .
Learned somethin', did we? ;-)
More than I wanted to know in some cases! You folks are shameless.
Nothing a Tyrolean fedora can't cover up ;-)
