Hi  anybody got a link to a site where I can print out a paper finger board to mark the fret positions I want to change for scale length on my next build from 25.5" to  24 "  .

You can use Wfret, or you can use some already created PDF files and just print them out.

Look on my profile page here under my blog section and you will see the downloads.

Thanks Dan , I used your pdf files and printed a 25.5" scale to check it and it printed out not to scale ?

Really??? I use them all the time.

It it off the same amount for each fret position, or does it change?

Maybe try the actual Wfret program and see if there is a difference?

Hmm..I just tested it here at work, and mine came out wrong too when I used the PDF file. I wonder why that is. I printed out one using Wret itself, and it came out correct.

Guess I better figger out why the PDF files come out hosed up.

Sorry

Yes Dan same here I've downloaded and installed Wfret printed out 25.5" and it's bang on and I printed out a 24" template and checked the chart to the template and it's spot on .

It looks like it has to do with the Adobe Reader settings when you print, I think you need to select Actual Size in the print dialog box, but I need to investigate further.

It looks like Adobe is automatically resizing the page to fit, which goofs up the scale.

You will find FRETFIND2d at www.fretfind.ekips.org This allows you to calculate any scale you like both in inches and milimetres

I use fretfind all the time.  It calculates any scale, even fractions of inches and gives back .pdf files, single or multi-page, or .dwg drawings if you use Autocad or some other drafting app.

I`ve used this same one going on 20 years now. Scale lengths from 13" to 31" . Just lay the fretboard beside the scale length you want to use and copy the slot marks. Best investment you could ever make for stringed instrument building. I`ve turned a lot of builders on to this chart over the years......http://www.harpkit.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=...

Printable fret diagrams could be a problem with some printers and copiers. At one time both printed slightly out of scale to prevent counterfitting. I am not sure if this is still the case.

I am one of the lucky ones who uses one scale length, 25.5" scale for all my builds - i ordered a pre-slotted fretboard from a reliable source and use this to score off all my blank fretboards using a set square and a craft knife, easily possible on straight CBG fretboards (-:

That's what I do Steve I have a couple of off cuts from a pre-slotted 25.5" scale I use to mark mine up , I just thought i'd have a change on this build and make a 24" scale 3 stringer.
