Dylan: A Handmade Tribute

Cigar Box Nation members interpret the music of Bob Dylan onto handmade instruments.  Originally released in 2013, this tribute was arranged, compiled and produced by C# Merle with help from Silent Jim.

We have placed all 25 songs onto one .zip file for ease of downloading:

Merle, I've sent my version from "Maggie's Farm" to you. Hope you'll like it. All instruments are homemade by myself:

6-string lapsteel guitar (my first build, 2006)

3-string CBU-Bass (2011)

3-string lapsteel cbg (2012)

Cheers and thanks for everything,

SUGIMUGI / thorsten / shrink kitten guitars

great stuff thorsten. the re-interpretation of dylan's songs onto homemade instruments is gonna be something to hear

Finally found the time and inspiration to start work on my submission. Laid down the basic guitar tracks today, just the vocals, some lead guitar parts and maybe a bit of percussion still to do.

Yikes! I'm intimidated! All my video will be in one fell swoop and one imperfect take after many less perfect takes. At least I finished my cbg this morning. Tomorrow I start the work of recording.

Larry,

Don't be intimidated. Just do your best, and make it your own. Just remember, by his own admission, Dylan can't sing, either.

Ron's response gave me a good laugh.  And it has a lot of truth.   Take a Dylan song and do it with your own style and your own voice.

Don't be intimidated, Larry. It's only because I don't have the balls to record with only guitar and voice, and try to hide behind layers of noise.

Hedley,

No one can see your balls (or lack thereof) on a recording. Think about it. >:-E Besides, we've already seen you on vid with just guitar and voice, getting busted by Louise. You got nothing to worry about.

may i suggest my own method, whiskey, cbg and a live mic. works every time:)

You can't keep a drunk CBG away from a live mic...makes em ornery

Its always a battle between Rum & Whiskey for me, but either gets the job done lol

Good on you Larry.  It takes guts to put yourself out there at first, but it gets easier every time.  Luckily we have the kindest and most appreciative audience around!
