Thanks Norbert. A lot of these American songs have Irish, British and Scottish heritage but then got mixed with music from Africa which was brought over here on slave ships. It makes for an interesting blend of musics! This tune was already well known by the 1830's when the Texas War For Independence was fought but the words got changed to fit those events.

Kris Kristofferson does a haunting version of I Won't Back Down on this show's soundtrack but RTZ has already done a great version plus I couldn't play it on fiddle so here's a song for a Texas heroine.
