Wandlebury Ring (Cigar Box Strummer Music recorded on Tascam DP004)

The music is done with my Cigar Box Strummer that I got for Christmas - one of these from tinyguitars : -) http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/50-christmas-strummers
This is a test run at recording it..not perfectly played and as it has no pick up and it's recorded with the mics from my Tascam it has picked up a few other things (my husband clonking around upstairs!!)...but it seemed like some magic happened : -)
The photos are of Wandlebury taken several years ago on a beautiful day that started out misty, then the sun started breaking through.....

I used to wonder what the point of these strummers were. They have diatonic scale fretting (the notes of a major scale) like a mountain dulcimer, so you can't hit a wrong note. I used to think that you could play all the same stuff and more on an instrument with all the frets, so WHY???...but I've found that the simplicity is great!!
I planned what I was going to play for track one, but then for track two I just improvised something on the top string. Then on track three I did the same on the bottom string.
On a normal guitar I never could have done that without hitting a wrong note!!
SO much reward for very little effort!!!

You're a progressive player, progressing in music is always being willing to take the next step, pretty soon all the steps run together and you find you can do more than you ever thought you could. Keep up the good work and wonderful pictures.

You're welcome.  I'm serious.  Certain songs hit me pretty hard sometimes.  Joe Satriani's "Always With You Always With Me", Santana's "Samba Pa Ti", Pink's version of "Me and Bobby McGee" are examples of songs that just grab me.  "Wandlebury Ring" is right there with them.  It's big!

Unreal!!!  I've been sitting here for five minutes and just can't seem to come up with words to use on this one. It is absolutely brilliant.  More - more- more...

thanks Uncle John...yep I used to have exactly those thoughts about strummers. In theory you can do anything (and more!) on an instrument with all the frets...I used to think WHY??? but I've found the way it simplifies things makes it great fun to play....you don't have to think!! I couldn't have just improvised like I did on this on a regular guitar without hitting wrong notes!!

Beautiful music and photos Belinda.  I do not at this point 'get' what a strummer is good for - how it does things a fretted 3 or 4 string does not.  Will try to check it out more.  Nice video.  Happy new year.
