I played two acoustic guitars for rhythm. A banjo and 3 string cigar box slide, with a Gretsch for the country picking on top and an upright bass. All the slide is 3 string guitar box. Its not pure cigar box alone but as an ensemble instrument and mixed in with all the other strings it brings an incredible warmth I think.
