The Mountain by Steve Earle on 3 string Cigar Box Guitar

This one's built on an old cherry packing box so I decided on a neck made from cherry. Tuned down around F,C,f to make it a bit easier to sing. This song is ...

I got a picture of my grandfather and an uncle who mined before they went to strip mining down Alabama. The faces of these miners says it all. Still got there pot belly stove they used for coffee from the miners shack. This song mentioned trees and that's one of the tragedies when we replaced the hardwoods with fast growing pines.

Warm and woody sound from that nice git.   Great sounds from Mr, Jim.

I agree with what Matt says.   LOL on the last part of his statement.

Old Steve is one of the great song writers, performers and independents.

Watching your picking /claw hammer/ pattern.   Nice.

Also one of my favorite songs from Steve, think you do it even better than he does, sounds more real from you.Steve can sure play and sing but I am not sure he could work hard with his hands, and I bet he never shuts up. Nice job

One of my favourite Earle songs from my favourite album of his. Excellent rendition, Jim.

Thanks Clock.

Thanks smilingdog. This was written by Steve Earle and was first done on his collab with bluegrass legend Del McCroury. It was also done by Levon Helm on one of his last albums.

Thanks Wes. This song is maybe not so well known as Prine's Paradise but ranks right up there for expressing things lost to "progress" It's a hard life for miners everywhere and for folks living around the mines.
