I haven't made an 8 string mando for quite a while so I figured it was time. The Fox is an old folk song that I'm doing in a Nickel Creek sort of style but o...

Thanks RTZ. I rarely do fixed bridges since my first instruments were banjos and that's just the way I kept doing it. Oh man, I bought a pre made mando bridge just to use as a template for string spacing but even then if the blade slips you get stuff uneven. The nut is just as tricky. It's a lot easier now since I started using a strip of corian glued on for the top of the bridge. I think because there's no grain to throw the blade off the slots go where you want them (more or less)

very nice Jim ,  one of the reasons I like floating bridges on my stuff especially short scale. I haven't yet but the hassle for me would be cutting a mando nut. String spacing AWWWWWW..

Thanks Unc. You're right - the shorter the scale the more difficult it is to get proper intonation. But like the joke goes - a mandolin player spends half his time tuning and the other half playing out of tune.

Great job, Jim.   Making those short scale instruments and having them play and sound so right is difficult.    8 strings makes it harder.   Sounding good!
