Tears of a Clown on Punch 3 String CBG

Great old Smokey Robinson song that I thought was right for the Punch 3 string (thanks Unc) since he and his dog are portrayed as clowns/jesters on the box. I had been lo...

I still don't know 1 chord for 3 string other then bar chord but this inspires me to get a chord chart. I had a piece of mahogany 1 1/8 don't think I would try thinner . What strings and tuning are on this?

Thanks RTZ. This one's wider than standard spacing but a lot closer than many 3 stringers. The neck was just too narrow for me when I got close to standard so this is something of a compromise. I love working out chords for a song like this on a 3 string. You always have to leave something out so you gotta experiment to find the voicing that pleases your ear. I'm trying to work out While My Guitar Gently Weeps and it's kickin' my butt!

Getting a lot out of 3 strings Jim, I just built a 3 string with standard string spacing trying to get one to play smoother rhythm looks a lot like yours. Really like the chords sections Nice

Please consider Blackbird Fly (I think that's what it's called but it might just be called Blackbird). Such a beautiful song and I reckon you'd truly do it justice.

Thanks again Dani and Bear. I usually only post vids when I have a new build like this one. But if I've got nothing finished I still try to keep to my one a week schedule of vids. I'm working now on a box that features London landmarks on the front so I'm thinking of a good UK song to demo it with. Maybe one by the Beatles? I don't think I've posted one from them yet and I know about a hundred. I only know about a dozen by the Rolling Stones but that would be cool too!

That's cool Jim. Glad to hear you're not sad at least. I'll look forward to more videos from you soon. Hint hint :D

Thanks Dani and Bear. This song actually makes me quite happy for a couple of reasons. For one thing, the intro on the original featured a piccolo and a bassoon. Not many hit songs can make that claim. The other thing is that my Dad,now 96 years old, was an opera singer and it was cool to hear Pagliacci mentioned in a pop song!

Please don't be sad, so sad, Jim! Loved this version. Great singing and a beautiful tone from that guitar too. Wonderful.
